Mike Yost is already working hard at gathering donations for a 2012 congressional campaign. In an email sent out to supporters Wednesday, Yost announced his intentions to again launch a campaign against Rep. Corrine Brown, D-Jacksonville.
The email, titled âAre you ready to FIRE CORRINE??â makes several mentions of redistricting.
âRedistricting will change the entire look of the 3rd District,â reads Yostâs email. âThe Fair District amendments mean that it canât favor one party over the other, or an incumbent over a challenger. It also will keep Congressional Districts compact, which this one isnât right now.â
Should redistricting take effect, Brownâs twisting and turning district would drastically change, and she could lose some of her current supporters. Currently, the district stretches from Jacksonville to Orlando and Gainesville; according to Yost, it is essentially an easy seat âfor Corrine to win in perpetuity.â But, according to Yost, should the district be redrawn, Yost, and Republicans in general, would have more pull in the district.
From the email:
I hope you agree that the time to act is NOW. With your support of $25, $50, or even $100 today, we can let Corrine know that this year is going to be different. Together, we can turn this District into a Conservative Republican stronghold and bring the REAL change Florida needs. Taking this 3rd District will also give us a âheads upâ in winning the Presidential race and the Senate. NO President can win without Florida and Florida canât be won without N.E. Florida. So help me make this a 3 way sweep in 2012.
Yostâs website has also been updated to include a banner that reads, âYost for Congress 2012: Letâs Rebuild America TogetherâŠâ along with a new campaign ad.
Yostâs previous campaign against Brown was a strong one, but not strong enough to topple Brown from her district. Even allegations of campaign fraud did little to deter voters from voting for Brown, a seven-term incumbent.
