Are you looking to sell products on Amazon, but aren’t quite sure where to get started? Or, maybe you’re already signed up as anΒ amazon seller, but the money isn’t coming in as you’d expected?
Amazon is the largest online retailer in the US, and there are over 100 million Amazon Prime members worldwide. Being the biggest online retailer means you have the chance to reach more customers. But, it also means that it can be harder to get noticed in a sea of thousands of other sellers.
Luckily, there are some great tips for selling on Amazon that can help you boost your sales. Read on to learn more.

1. Price Your Items Competitively
It’s no secret that a lot of buyers come to Amazon to find a great deal. Therefore, it’s very important that you price your items competitively.
Oftentimes, people walk into a store, and before buying an item, they check the price on Amazon. If they find a lower price on Amazon, they’ll almost always buy from there.
So, unless you’re selling unique items, do some research on what items like yours are selling for and then price them accordingly. This will help your items show up at the top of the search results.
You can also take advantage of Amazon’s Low Price feature which helps you continually match the lowest prices on Amazon for the products you’re selling.
2. Use Search Optimization to Make Your Products Easier to Find
Competitive pricing isn’t the only way to make your products easy to find for customers. You also need to make sure you’re optimizing your product listings.
Amazon sells millions and millions of products. To make it easy for consumers to find what they’re looking for, Amazon has a search tool that allows users to type in very specific information to find the exact product they’re looking for.
Therefore, it’s critical that you provide accurate information about your products and as much information as possible about each product. Your listings should include information about the:
- Brand
- Color
- Quantity
- Size
- Product line
- Product description
- Specifications (height, weight, etc)
- Material
To make managing your product information easier, we suggest that you take advantage of a product information tool. These tools help you keep all of your product data organized and up to date.
3. Use Keywords
In addition to creating accurate and informative product descriptions, you also want to make sure your product descriptions are filled with the right keywords.
Keywords are the words that users are likely to type into the search bar in order to find your product. To find the right keywords for your listing, we suggest making use of the Amazon Keyword Tool.
This tool collects information from Amazon’s Autocomplete function to find popular long-tail keywords (keywords that are several words or more). The tool will rank your keywords on a scale of 1 to 10 based on their popularity.
Once you have a list of the highest-rated keywords, we then suggest that you plug them into Google’s Keyword Planner Tool. This too will then display the search volume for each keyword/keyword phrase.
You’ll then know what the most popular search phrases are for the products you’re selling. By plugging these keywords into your descriptions, you’ll be able to improve your visibility drastically.
4. Choose High-Quality Images
The saying “A picture is worth a thousand words” really holds true for Amazon sellers.
If you want your products to sell like hotcakes, then you need to be using high-quality images. Your pictures should not be grainy, blurry, or filled with background clutter.
Not only do poor-quality photos make it hard for buyers to understand your product, but they also make you look unprofessional as a seller. If you appear unprofessional, buyers are less likely to trust you and buy from you.
If you can, hire a professional photographer to take photos of your products. Or, at the very least, use a professional camera. Also, try to take pictures that:
- Have a neutral background
- Show your product from multiple angles
- Show any flaws if you’re selling used products
- Don’t have any clutter in the frame
Humans are visual creatures, so having high-quality photos can really help boost your sales.
5. Try to Win the Buy Box
Having your product displayed in the Buy Box is basically the equivalent of having a commercial slot during the Super Bowl halftime show. The buy box is displayed prominently on the right-hand side of the product page.
When you win the Buy Box, you’re likely going to see a spike in your sales. But, winning the Buy Box is easier said than done. This is due in part to the fact that there’s no straightforward answer on how to win this precious spot, as Amazon is very secretive about their algorithms.
Luckily, there are some tips you can follow to improve your odds of winning, including:
- Maintaining high seller ratings
- Offering low and competitive prices
- Offering products through Amazon FBA
- Receiving a lot of high customer reviews
- Creating unique item bundles (ie, selling 3 or more products together, such as a set of dumbbells)
Doing these things will not guarantee that you get a slot in the Buy Box. Even if you don’t win a spot in the Buy Box, at the very least, following these suggestions will help boost your sales.
If you don’t win the Buy Box, you can always pay to have your products sponsored for better visibility. You can click here to learn more about Amazon sponsored products.
