Many people don’t know it yet, but the 21st century is a golden age for many industries. Politicians, businesspeople, and entrepreneurs all have drastically high levels of communication at their fingertips, due to the technological advancements of the last 20 years. There are over 1.5 billion websites on the internet, so there’s no shortage of options for self-education.
However, it’s just as important to network in person as ever. That’s why institutions like the Young Presidents Organization exist. When it comes to building lasting business relationships, there’s nothing quite like in-person networking.
So what is the Young Presidents Organization? If you’ve found yourself asking this question, this article will serve as your helpful guide.
What is YPO?
The Young Presidents Organization is a collective of 30,000 people spread all over the world that helps young presidents and top-tier executives come together to exchange wisdom, ideas, philosophies, and observations. Through the sharing of ideas, they grow stronger, incorporating what they learn into their own businesses. The combined revenue of companies run by the members of the YPO stands at over 9 trillion.
The YPO operates on the idea that executives need to be able to think artistically and creatively. If they make use of the tactics that academics and other intellectuals make use of, there’s no telling what heights they might reach.
YPO Requirements
So how do you join the YPO?
There are strict criteria you have to meet in order to apply for membership. Anybody applying to the YPO needs to have reached the position of President, CEO, Chairman of the Board, Managing Director, Managing Partner, or another equivalent title at a company that has either a minimum of 50 million employees or fifteen or more employees and an annual employee compensation of 2 million a year.
Essentially, these people need to be dominating their field of business. All candidates have to be below 45 at the time of induction. As you can see, the definition of “young” is a bit stretched, since people tend to peak after in the business world.
YPA Membership
YPA Membership means you’ve achieved levels of success at a young age that most people never hit in a lifetime. It’s an honor for anyone to receive membership. It’s also a great goal for anyone to strive for.
The YPA has many members you’ve most likely heard of. (If you haven’t heard of them yet, you probably will soon.)
Charles R Schwab of the Charles Schwab corporation was a member, as was Ray Lee Hunt of Hunt Oil. One of the best contemporary examples is Will Johnson of The Harris Poll.
The Young Presidents Organization Commands Respect
If you’re under the age of 45 and run a company that’s doing well, you could qualify for membership in the Young Presidents Organization. There, you can network and exchange business strategies, which is so important in today’s rapidly shifting world.
