Officials for a nonprofit group created to prepare for the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa unveiled fundraising and planning efforts this week.
The 2012 Tampa Bay Host Committee announced a new website and logo at a press conference Monday. Last Friday, the Republican National Committee voted unanimously in Kansas City, Mo., to confirm Tampa as the site for the convention.
Officials are projecting the convention will bring an influx of 45,000 people to the Tampa region during the week of Aug. 27, 2012, according to the TBHC’s new website.
The committee’s new website is somewhat lean so far, but it pledges to post information on volunteer and fundraising oppurtunities soon. The mission of the nonpartisan group is to “raise private funds to alleviate the burdens on government in paying for certain costs of the Convention, coordinating logistics and working with law enforcement agencies to provide a safe and secure event.”
Any funds generated by the committee will be boosted by $50 million in federal dollars that will be allotted to the City of Tampa for the costs of holding the convention, according to the St. Petersburg Times.
The Republican National Committee has also posted a website touting the convention in Tampa, dubbing it “The People’s Convention.”
