Alex Sink is slated to win the Democratic gubernatorial primary today, but tomorrow faces the same problem her Democratic rival Brian Moore has encountered: name recognition.

The Miami Herald reports today:

The Quinnipiac University Poll last week found that 53 percent of the likely voters in the state had not heard enough to form an opinion about Sink, including 44 percent of all Democrats. A recent Mason-Dixon poll found that one in three voters didn’t know much about her, either. And an internal Democratic poll showed that 47 percent of voters did not know enough to rate her.

According to Real Clear Politics, Sink leads Republican candidates Rick Scott and Bill McCollum as well as independent Bud Chiles.

A Quinnipiac report released Aug. 19 indicates

Sink’s favorability numbers have hardly moved in the last two months, going from 28 – 14 percent favorable on June 9 to 30 – 15 percent favorable today.

McCollum, who leads the GOP primary race, has seen his favorable/unfavorable ratio sink from 37 – 29 percent favorable among all registered voters to a negative 33 – 34 percent. Scott’s has dropped from 31 – 22 percent favorable in June to a negative 28 – 40 percent today.

Today’s GOP primary will determine Sink’s opponent.

Scott signs new funding for sexual assault services

Gov. Rick Scott signed new legislation today that will allocate $1.5 million to pay for relocation services for women who are victims of sexual battery. The bill's signing comes in the wake of criticism of the governor over his veto of $1.5 million for the Florida Council Against Sexual Violence, a group that was going to pass along that funding to 30 rape crisis centers across the state.
