Gov. Rick Scott has signed the elections bill, HB 1355, according to an announcement from his office, which did not include any statement or other additional information.
Many of the lawโs provisions technically take effect immediately. A lawsuit is already claiming the bill would unconstitutionally disrupt the last weekend of early voting in the Miami-Dade County elections, which are Tuesday.
The law would also force people who recently moved to Miami-Dade, and planned on changing their address, to vote by provisional ballot.
The bill would also likely require approval by the U.S. Department of Justice because five counties in Florida are covered by the Voting Rights Act.
Weโll have more details as this develops.
