In last week’s “Twitter Town Hall” with President Obama, reproductive rights groups asked Obama to ensure insurance coverage for preventative medicine that includes contraception. Among them was a group called Raising Women’s Voices. #
According to CBS News: #
A variety of organizations that advocate for reproductive rights, such as Planned Parenthood, are retweeting a question from the group Raising Women’s Voices that presses the president on extending his health care reforms. Mr. Obama’s health care reforms included a provision to make preventive care free for patients, but these groups say that policy should include contraceptives. “Pls, RT! Women shouldnt have to pay xtra for preventive healthcare. Will u tell insurers to drop copays 4 contraception?” #
This year has been tough for most government services. However, one of the biggest-hit services has been public funding for family planning and women’s health, due to political battles aimed at Planned Parenthood. #
In Florida, the state cut almost $1 million from family planning aid for local governments. The same has been true with states all over the country. #
