On average more than 60% of Americans take a family vacation each year.
Vacations and traveling are a lot of fun. For many of us, it’s time to relax and recover from our busy lives. For others, it’s an opportunity to explore new cultures and cuisines.
Whatever your motivation for going traveling this year, it’s important you avoid these major travel problems along the way.
Let’s check out the travel problems you need to avoid.
1. Losing a Passport
The number of people in the U.S. with passports continues to grow as Americans get the taste for travel. However, the more people with passports, the greater the number of people losing their passports each year.
Make sure you keep your passport on you at all times. If you’re requested to hand in your passport at your hotel, insist that it should be securely stored.
As soon as you realize your passport has been lost or stolen, you need to contact the local police. Make sure you receive a reference number to follow up after.
Then, you need to contact the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. Before you can be issued a new passport, you’ll be required to complete a lost or stolen form.
If it’s an emergency, then contact the rush passport company for the national passport service.
2. Stolen or Lost Wallet
If your wallet has been either stolen or lost, then you need to inform the local police straight away. Ensure you receive a crime reference number.
There are numerous ways to avoid a stolen or lost wallet. You can consider carrying an additional wallet with only a few notes. You can hand this over in case you’re mugged on the streets.
Avoid carrying everything together. Keep your bank cards in separate places at all times. You can also distribute your cash through your luggage, wallet, and on your person.
3. Missed Flight
Missing your flight can be awful and ruin your entire vacation.
That’s why it’s always important to arrive at the airport with plenty of time to spare. If you’re traveling on public transport, it’s especially important to have a backup plan.
However, even if you miss your flight, the airline may permit you to travel on the next flight to your destination for no extra charge. It’s important to be patient and polite when speaking to your airline staff about your predicament.
If you’re returning home after your vacation, you can ask your hotel to give you a wake-up call. Also, make sure you set several alarms if you need to be up early for your flight.
4. Jet Lag Disaster
Jet lag can ruin your vacation and make you feel awful the entire time you’re on your travels.
You can reduce the effects of jet lag by avoiding alcohol and caffeine. Also, avoid overly salty or fatty foods.
Once you arrive at your destination, you need to adapt to your new time zone immediately. Whatever you do, don’t take a nap during the middle of the day. You’ll feel worse, not better.
5. Sunburn and Sunstroke
Chances are that you’ve gone on vacation to get some sunshine. But, too much sun without sunscreen can damage your skin, among other health problems.
Make sure you stay hydrated throughout the day. You should also avoid the sun during the warmest times of the day.
