CBD is something you’ve at one point likely found repetitive in the media. You’ve heard that it’s good for you, in some way or another. And you can find it in almost anything.
And while it’s prevalent, and while it really is good for you (for one thing or another) the type of CBD you choose to buy yields different intentions.
CBD oil is most likely what you’ve heard of, but there’s another option that’s similar but also very different: tinctures. And if you’ve already heard of it, you might be wondering: is tincture the same as CBD oil?
It’s not. But not for no reason.
There’s so much out there, and it’s pretty easy to get confused or to overlook the differences. To help you relax a bit more even before the CBD, check out this quick guide for what’s different about CBD oil vs. tincture.

What is CBD?
CBD (Cannabidiol) is a molecule found in hemp and cannabis. Unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the component found in hemp and cannabis that is psychoactive, CBD is entirely separate and is not psychoactive.
In fact, it’s quite the opposite.
The THC in these plants is what might induce what many refer to as a “high”. However, CBD doesn’t do that. Instead, CBD stabilizes. And that stabilization applies to a lot.
CBD can offer aid in various medical conditions or bodily functions, like:
- Balancing stress
- Regulating appetite
- Salving pain
- Fighting viruses
- Calming anxiety
And even further, each of those things left unchecked can induce other problems. Because of that, CBD bears an opportunity to help even more.
CBD Oil vs. CBD Tincture
Once you start looking, you’re sure to find many different types of CBD products. However, the two most prominent would be an oil or a tincture. But what’s the difference? And why does it matter?
CBD Oil
CBD oil is predominantly added to carrier oils. These are lengthening agents that include:
- Coconut oil
- MCT oil
- Hemp seed oil
- Vegetable or glycerin base
These bases dilute CBD and give our bodies a better opportunity to absorb it. However, CBD oil is the most potent variety and therefore the most expensive.
CBD oil is often ingested or it can be vaped.
CBD Tincture
Oxford dictionary defines “tincture” as any substance dissolved in alcohol that’s used for medicinal purposes. You might also associate the word with cocktail ingredients.
Alcohol is a form of preservation. In tinctures, the potency of CBD is going to be a little less than oils, but the shelf life is much longer.
How to use CBD tincture differs from oil as well. A tincture is more easily added to food or it can be added to drinks. And because it is thinner, it mixes better and leaves less of a tasted residue.
Is Tincture the Same As CBD Oil?
CBD by way of oil or tincture is different with different qualities, but the effects are intended the same.
If you’re interested in CBD, but you’re wondering, “is tincture the same as CBD oil?” and you want to go the safe route, it’s a good idea to lean towards a tincture. It’ll last longer and will give you the same results as an oil.
