Florida resident and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will act as the keynote speaker for the controversial anti-abortion group Heroic Media at a Feb. 15 dinner in Orlando. According to a press release, the funds raised will go toward “placing positive, life-affirming television commercials, billboards, and Internet in Florida.”
Heroic Media founder Brian Follett raised eyebrows last December after saying Planned Parenthood’s efforts are “almost like” genocide.
Heroic’s controversial billboard campaign aimed at African-Americans has drawn harsh criticism from Planned Parenthood, whose representatives say the ads are “reprehensible.” One billboard shows an African-American girl in the foreground with the words “The most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb” displayed in the background.
Republican state Sen. John Thrasher, who spoke alongside Sarah Palin at a Jacksonville event for Heroic Media last August, later criticized Follett, saying he “does not condone” Follett’s controversial comments and that Heroic was only interested in “shock value.”
