One of the best things about the internet is how it has afforded people the ability to start a business cheaply and easily. There is less red tape to deal with than opening a brick and mortar and your market is almost limitless.
What I am talking about is an ecommerce site. If you have an idea for a product that you think can be sold online then you are halfway there when it comes to starting one. You can start anywhere in the world and sell on the other side of the world if you wish. With that in mind, it makes even more sense to sell digital products.
This type of ecommerce store can make passive income as you don’t need to handle any physical products that need to be shipped.
In this article, I will give you some ideas on how to sell digital products from an ecommerce site.
Table of Contents
Here are the ideas
1 – Accept different payment options
One of the beautiful things about selling digital products is that your target market can be anywhere in the world. Since there is nothing to ship, it doesn’t matter where the person is that is buying your product.
What you have to keep in mind, though, is that not everybody is going to be able to pay in the same way. In other words, you’ll need to give a lot of different payment options to make sure that everybody can pay.
With much of the world not using banks, you’ll have to accept cryptocurrency so they have a means to pay for the product. With any popular Bitcoin wallet you’ll be able to accept Bitcoin and then exchange it for your local currency with very low fees involved.
2 – Find your niche
There are so many digital products that can be sold that there is almost no limit as to what you can do. The best way forward is to figure out what your expertise is and then build a product around it.
Let’s suppose that your skill is cooking vegan food. You have a lot of different possible products to sell here. For starters, you can create a cookbook that can be sold through your site and downloaded so there is no need to have it published in a traditional sense.
Create a series of videos that explain how to cook vegan recipes from start to finish that people can watch on their own time.
If you give them access to some live cook alongs plus access to a private forum or Facebook group, then it can seem like an actual class and not just a series of videos.
3 – Solid marketing plan
You’ll need to be driving traffic to your site, so your marketing needs to be on point. Have a lot of different channels working and you will bring in the right kind of traffic. Start with some SEO to have your site rank for your main keywords for your product.
Then, have Youtube work for you by creating a channel with videos that link back to your website. A podcast about the subject that your product belongs to will do the same thing as Youtube. And of course, social media will create a loyal fanbase.
