The Florida Senate has already passed a “smart cap” proposal, which imposes a constitutional limit on state spending. The House is working on its version, as well as a separate constitutional provision (.pdf) that would cap local property taxes. #

Today, Senate President Mike Haridopolos said he’s open to the idea of limiting local government property taxes as well. The reason? They will help create stability, which will help attract capital to the state. #

Haridopolos supported limits on state and local government spending, but the Senate narrowed the limit to the state government this year to make it more likely to pass. #
