Did you know that Automobili Lamborghini was officially established in 1963, the same year Lamborghini debuted its first car, the Lamborghini 350 GTV? Since then, Lamborghini has become a luxury supercar brand known worldwide for its sleek designs and fast acceleration times. While the Lamborghini brand is well known, there are still some details that might surprise you.
So, keep reading for five facts about Lamborghini.
1. Lamborghini Tractors
While the name Lamborghini is now associated with supercars, Ferruccio Lamborghini originally made tractors. To this day, you can still buy Lamborghini tractors!
After WWII, Lamborghini saw an emerging market for agricultural vehicles and equipment. The first tractor Lamborghini made was made up of parts of a former military vehicle and named the “Carioca” tractor.
The “Carioca” tractor was a huge success and led to the creation of Lamborghini’s first company, Lamborghini Trattori. Lamborghini’s tractors were a cost-effective solution for those working in agriculture.
2. Lamborghini Was Created Due to Ferrari
Lamborghini and Ferrari are currently in direct competition when it comes to luxury supercars, but the only reason Lamborghini began creating these supercars is due to Ferrari.
While Lamborghini was running an agricultural vehicles business, Ferrari was established as one of the best supercar brands. Ferruccio Lamborghini loved driving supercars and owned a Ferrari 250 GT. Lamborghini had an issue with the clutch of his Ferrari and when he asked Ferrari to replace the part they reportedly clashed about the issue.
Supposedly, Enzo Ferrari told Ferruccio to focus on tractors and leave the workings of sports cars to others. Ferruccio took this as a personal challenge and created his own sports car.
3. Fighter Planes
To ensure Lamborghini stood out from other luxury cars, Lamborghini employed several designers for each model made. Famous designers including Touring, Mario Marazzi, Bertone, and Franco Scaglione have all worked on Lamborghini models.
Designer Filippo Perini got inspiration from American F-22 and B-2 fighter planes when designing the modern Lamborghini models.
4. Lamborghini Bulls
As a Taurus himself, Ferruccio Lamborghini was known to be a big fan of Spanish bullfighting. Lamborghini’s admiration of the fierce bulls helped him decide on the theme his cars will be named after.
Since then all Lamborghini models refer to bulls and even the logo is a raging bull.
5. Winter Academy
Did you know that there is a Winter Academy dedicated to racing around a ski resort? This Academy allows you to test drive a Lamborghini of your choice on low-grip snow and ice surfaces.
Unfortunately, the Winter Academy is not only pricey but only available in certain areas, so you might want to rent an exotic car to still experience the thrill of driving a Lamborghini.
