1. Make Sure They Take Naps

It can always help to break down the assignment into pages or paragraphs that a child thinks they can accomplish. It will help motivate them to keep going.

5. Set Time Goals

Setting time goals can also help them stay focused.

If they don’t have a deadline to complete a task by, they may not feel motivated to get it done. If there is no time limit, they also have time to focus on things other than the task at hand.

For example, if your child needs to study, you should tell them that they should study a certain number of pages for about twenty minutes.

Adults can concentrate for a little under an hour, but a child’s attention span is much shorter than that. That’s why you should keep the time limit between fifteen to twenty minutes.

If your child feels too much pressure or too anxious, this may not be a good tactic for your child.

6. Use Flexible Rules and Tools

You should also try and use flexible rules and tools when trying to help your child focus.

In a traditional classroom setting, most students have to sit down to complete their tasks. However, some children may do better if they’re allowed to stand up. They may even finish their work faster if they’re allowed to work how they want.

You should also make sure that your child only has to focus on one thing at a time.

As an adult, we’re all focused on multitasking and being able to do multiple things at once. However, that’s much harder for a child to do.

However, research has shown that multitasking actually decreases the quality of the work overtime.

Make sure that you only ask them to do one task at a time.
