Michael Dattoli, MD, is a board-certified radiation oncologist. At the Dattoli Cancer Center in Sarasota, Florida, Dr. Dattoli specializes in the non-surgical treatment of prostate cancer, among other specialties.
Dr. Dattoli grew up in Poughkeepsie, New York, in an Italian Catholic family along with two sisters. His family relocated to the Jersey Shore, and he grew up in relative poverty, like many Italian families in the โ50s and โ60s. When Michael was only 13 years old, his father passed away, and he immediately took on the role of a comforter and provider for his family. Overnight, he became the man of the house and had to learn how to take care of his mother and sisters.
Dr. Dattoli built the foundation of Dattoli Cancer Center and as an oncologist by: helping others navigate complex, life-threatening diseases like prostate cancer with world-class care and research.
In the course of his medical training at Vassar College and UC-Berkeley, he learned that cancer on its own was a mysterious and deadly field that had few solutions and brought immense suffering to many families. He learned that while many forms of cancer were being combated with treatments beyond surgery, prostate cancer seemed to be behind the other forms of cancer in terms of treatment options, research, and preventive strategies. Lung, breast, and other kinds of cancer were seeing more progress in terms of radiation and chemotherapy treatment, but prostate cancer was relatively far behind.
Today, Dr. Dattoli helps hundreds of families each year at Dattoli Cancer Center while navigating the complexities of cancer, finding treatment together, and providing resources for them. Some of the research and treatments include:
