Road trips are an American pastime. They’ve almost become a rite of passage in American culture, and this trend shows no signs of declining. In 2016 well over one-third of all vacations taken in the United States are road trips.
The classic road trip involves a car, preferably a sports car, two passengers, and miles of the empty open road. However, some prefer to forego the car and take cross country buses. Unless, youโre looking for adventure or just a quick getaway, the megabus student discount is the perfect way to get there.
Believe it or not, there are quite a few cross country buses that can make for a great trip. We’ll talk more about some of them in the paragraphs below.
1. Greyhound
Probably the most famous company on this list, Greyhound is also more prolific than the others. It has more bus routes and travel options than any other company. It also offers discounts for students and military personnel, which gives you more chances to save money.
The drawback to this is that Greyhound buses are not very luxurious. They have all the basic amenities, such as wifi, bathrooms, and air conditioning, but don’t expect anything much.
2. Red Coach
Red coach is almost the opposite of Greyhound. Its routes are limited largely to the state of Florida. Though Redcoach isn’t the most cross-country of cross country buses., it does come with other advantages.
They’re also slightly more luxurious than Greyhound and offer more extras, such as lap trays, footrests, and LCD screens for business and first-class. Despite all these amenities, they’re very affordable. You can go to redcoachusa.com to check out some of their trip options.
3. Peter Pan
Named after the beloved, and quite unsettling, story, Peter Pan bus lines is a company known for servicing the New England area. This bus line is fairly standard, much like Greyhound, so don’t expect a lot of extras.
The good news is that bus trips are often reasonably priced and offer several discounts, such as those for students, military personnel, and senior citizens.
The next time you’re planning on taking a trip to New England, and maybe seeing some of the country’s many historical sites, consider Peter Pan.
4. Boltbus
Boltbus is a company that is owned by both Greyhound and Peter Pan. It has a reputation for being more comfortable than Greyhound, and there are more ways to access your ticket to get on the bus.
It also has low prices. If you book your ticket over a month in advance, you may be able to travel for only a dollar. In fact, the company has even embraced this and made it their motto-Bolt for a buck.
The Best Cross Country Buses
Sometimes it’s hard to decide which cross country buses are right for you. Much of it is going to depend on your destination since most of them only serve certain parts of the country.
We’ve listed some of our favorite bus companies in the paragraphs above, but there are a few others out there. We encourage you to do more research on your own if you’re interested.
