The American Independent News Network (AINN) announces the launch of The North Carolina Independent News, which is available at ncindependent.com. #
âThe North Carolina Independent News focuses on impact journalism, setting it apart from other news outlets in the state,â says David S. Bennahum, President and CEO of The American Independent News Network, which publishes the site. âOur team is already hard at work reporting on stories that North Carolinians deserve to learn about. We look forward to continuing to investigating the underreported issues of the state while also looking beyond the surface of popular topics.â #
As a page on the recently launched AINN flagship site, The American Independent, The North Carolina Independent News is AINNâs second state page. The page features North Carolina-specific in-depth stories, blog posts, videos, up-to-date political polls, and more. âGood journalism is key for communities to thrive. Creating these smaller state sites within The American Independent allows our Network to move with the times, both in terms of the online medium and the current economy,â said Bennahum. #
Like the other eight locally-focused news sites and pages, The North Carolina Independent News will operate a virtual newsroom. Contributors include Ned Barnett, previously the Sunday editor and columnist for The News & Observer in Raleigh; Aaron Sarver, a former staff writer for In These Times and co-founder and producer of Fire on the Prairie, a nationally-syndicated radio program; Molly Davis, a former writer for Carolina Week, North Carolina Now, and The Peopleâs Channel; among others. Each contributor hails from or currently lives in North Carolina, and has a deep understanding of North Carolina politics and issues. #
There are several stories currently featured on The North Carolina Independent News. A story published this morning by Davis focuses on the leadership PAC of Rep. Patrick McHenry. The PAC has raised five times the amount it raised in 2008 and is one of the top ten congressional leadership PACs in terms of fundraising. Sarver wrote a piece addressing how influential Republican power brokers, previously involved in presidential and senatorial campaigns and PACs, helped supply the four winning Republican candidates in the Wake County School Board elections with a flood of money. The controversial new school board later voted to cut the countyâs diversity policy and end the student busing system. More information about this story will be published later today and will be available at ncindependent.com. #
