What is Kratom?
Before we talk about dosing, let’s talk a bit more about what kratom is. Kratom is an evergreen tree that grows in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Papua New Guinea.
Historically, farmers in Southeast Asia chewed kratom leaves for their painkilling properties. Today, you can brew kratom into your teas, purchase it as a powder and at it to your shakes, or take it in capsule form. You can also use kratom in cooking.

People use kratom for a variety of reasons, but the most common uses are for depression, pain relief, and opioid addiction relief. Traditionally, kratom has also been used to treat:

To figure out how much kratom you need to take for it to be effective, you first need to look at what grade of kratom you’re buying. Generally speaking, kratom is available in three grades of potency. These include:
- Super: Super kratom is taken from the largest leaves of the kratom tree, and each dose has a high number of alkaloids
- Premium: Premium kratom is made from an elaborate sifting process that weeds out the majority of the stems
- Extract: This is the most highly-concentrated form of kratom you can purchase, and it’s created by boiling kratom powder down into a thick resin

How Much Kratom to Take
Kratom is measured in grams. Generally speaking, a dosage of fewer than four grams is considered “light”. However, kratom affects everyone differently, and it may hit you harder depending on your height, weight, and history of kratom consumption.
When just starting out, we recommend starting with 1 to 2 grams of kratom. You may not notice any effects at this point, but it’s better to start with a low dose so you can figure out where your tolerance level is.
Once you get to 4 grams or more, you’ll start to feel the effects of kratom. If you take more than 10 grams, you’ll feel some very strong effects.
However, if you’re taking enhanced kratom, your dosage should be much smaller. Two grams of extracted kratom is considered a light dose, 3 grams is considered a potent dose, and 4 grams or more is considered a very strong dose.
