Getting out into nature helps improve mental health and camping is one of the best ways to get outdoors. Let’s look at some fun things to do when you go camping.
Fun Things to Do Near Water
If you’re camping near a lake or the ocean, take advantage of being near the water. If you don’t live close to water, it will be even more fun. You can swim, relax while floating around on an air mattress, or paddle around in a canoe or kayak.
If there’s a decent beach, you can build sand castles or boogie board alongside the shore. Fishing is always a fun way to spend the day and you might be able to catch your dinner.
Sports to Play When Camping
You can play all kinds of sports while camping. If there’s a large enough space nearby and you’ve got enough people, organize a game of soccer or football. Lawn bowling or bocce ball are fun for smaller groups.
If there are trails near your campsite, mountain biking and hiking are always great things to do when camping. Or maybe even rock climbing if you’ve got the right gear.
If something a little less active is more up your alley, try some card games or board games. Or if you don’t have the supplies with you, play something that doesn’t need any extras like I Spy or Charades.
You can even use a pencil and paper to play games like hangman and tic tac toe.
Exploring the Area
Biking and hiking are one way to explore but you can see plenty without venturing far from camp. Bird or animal watching and photography are a great option that you can do almost anywhere.
You can also create a scavenger hunt for everyone to join in. This is especially fun for kids. If you want a little more advanced version of a scavenger hunt, geocaching can be lots of fun if you’re in an area with active caches. This is something to research online before leaving for camp.
You can also venture even further from camp with an ATV or UTV. With the best UTV accessories for camping, you can make your site like a home away from home, even if you’re miles from civilization.
Relaxing at Camp
One of the best things about camping is being able to get away from the constant buzz of civilization and relax. Lay in a hammock all day and listen to the sound of nature. Do some stargazing at night or sit around a crackling campfire.
You can even sleep the day away if you want. The phone won’t interrupt and you don’t have to feel guilty about the chores that you need to do around the house.
“Indoor” Camping Activities
When you’re camping, you’re at the mercy of Mother Nature. And sometimes you’ll find yourself in the rain or other bad weather. Spend that time doing fun things “indoors.”
Spend some time in your tent or camper – play games, read, do some crafts, or if you can’t bear to be away from technology for too long, watch a movie on a portable device.
Stuff to Do at Night
Being outside at night is one of the best things to do at camp. It’s a whole different experience than in the city because there’s little or no light pollution. You’ve never seen as many stars as you’ll see when you’re in the middle of nowhere.
Go on a night hike, play flashlight tag, go for a midnight swim, or sit around the campfire swapping stories. You can do almost anything you would do during the day but it’s a different experience in the dark.
Enjoy the Change of Pace
Wherever you end up camping, there are plenty of fun things to do. Let the pressure of every day life wash away and enjoy the slower pace of living in the outdoors.
