The Florida House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a bill filed by state Rep. Tom Goodson, R-Titusville, that prohibits local governments from “adopting or maintaining in effect law, ordinance, or rule for purpose of addressing” wage theft, the practice of employers stiffing workers out of the wages they are owed.

Yesterday, U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke blocked a state law that barred doctors from asking patients about guns. The law was specifically aimed at making sure pediatricians did not ask parents if they have guns in the house.

Kriseman delivers 25,000 signatures to show popularity of recall legislation

Rep. Rick Kriseman, D-St. Petersburg, delivered a petition to Florida House Speaker Dean Cannon with 25,000 signatures from people who supported giving voters the power to recall state elected officials, including members of the legislature.

Crist returns to Tallahassee to promote anti-drilling amendment

Last Summer, after the Florida legislature shot down a proposed constitutional amendment that would have banned oil drilling in state waters, then-Gov. Charlie Crist pledged to “give ‘em hell for it.”

Crist was back in Tallahasse today to fulfill that promise.
