North Dakota close to becoming first state to establish health insurance exchange

North Dakota is on its way to becoming the first state in the country to have an operating health insurance exchange program. Each state is required by the Affordable Care Act to have some infrastructure in place by January 2013 for an exchange. Florida remains one of the lone states dragging its feet.

Courts implement new parental notification for abortion procedures

The Florida Supreme Court yesterday ordered courts to changes their procedures, implementing new rules created by a 2011 law making it harder for minors to obtain a judicial bypass around the the state’s parental notification before abortion law.

ACLU of Florida: Parental notification for abortion bill ‘endangers health of young women’

The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida sent out a press release on Friday warning that Florida’s House Bill 1247, which makes it more difficult to seek a judicial bypass for the parental notification of abortion, could possibly endanger the health of young women.

‘Parental Notice of Abortion’ bill moves forward with tight restrictions on judicial bypass

The Florida Senate Judiciary committee today passed the “Parental Notice of Abortion” bill with new language that would restrict which courts a minor has access to when seeking a judicial bypass of parental notification.

Legal challenge to Mississippi ‘Personhood’ amendment maybe headed to state Supreme Court

According to a press release from Personhood USA issued today, the ACLU and Planned Parenthood have appealed to the state Supreme Court in their challenge to Mississippi’s controversial Personhood Amendment.
