Bachmann officially announces run for president

Though it has been buzzed about for months, Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., officially announced her candidacy for the Oval Office early this morning. Bachmann, who has been a fixture on the anti-abortion circuit, took part in a presidential forum at the National Right to Life Convention in Jacksonville last Friday.

Former Planned Parenthood director addresses National Right to Life Convention

Former Planned Parenthood of Texas Director Abby Johnson spoke during the 2011 National Right to Life Convention, which began on Thursday in Jacksonville. Johnson, who has become a major fixture of the anti-abortion movement, used her time behind the podium to tell a story involving Hillary Clinton, whom she met at an annual Planned Parenthood function.

Five Republican presidential contenders took part in a National Right to Life Convention forum this morning in Jacksonville. Only two (Herman Cain and Rick Santorum) appeared in person, while the other three (Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul and Tim Pawlenty) literally phoned it in — appearing at the panel via Skype.

National Right to Life Convention kicks off in Jacksonville

The 2011 National Right to Life Convention kicked off in a riverfront Hyatt in Jacksonville this morning. Though a scattered group of protestors picketed the event outside, the mood inside the conference center was optimistic and upbeat.

Last week, five Republican presidential nominees signed a pledge promising to “not just check off the pro-life box but show true pro-life leadership if elected president.” Only three of those asked to sign the pledge — Mitt Romney, Gary Johnson and Herman Cain — declined to do so.
