New poll: Majority of Latina/o population supports reproductive rights

A new survey released from the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health found that “strong majorities” of Latina/os registered to vote support “access to legal abortion, affirm that they would offer support to a close friend or family member who had an abortion, and oppose politicians interfering in personal, private decisions about abortion,” the group reports.

Spanish-language news reporters who spoke Sunday on Al Punto, a Univision program, said the coming Supreme Court decision on Arizona’s immigration enforcement law S.B. 1070 will have an impact on both the 2012 elections and on the lives of millions of immigrants.

‘Racist’ anti-abortion billboards targeting Latinas come down

Earlier this month, the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles announced it would be putting up a new anti-abortion rights billboard campaign targeting Latinas in Los Angeles. The billboard said in both English and Spanish that “the most dangerous place for a Latino is in the womb.” However, due to a concerted effort among reproductive rights advocates, the billboards are coming down.

National Latina Institute denounces ‘racist anti-choice billboards’ set to debut in L.A.

A new anti-abortion billboard campaign is set to make an appearance in Los Angeles soon. The billboards are an almost word-for-word copy of the controversial Heroic Media campaign targeting African-American women. This latest campaign, however, targets Latinas.
