Times-Union: Planned Parenthood sends ‘letters of disappointment’ to 33 state lawmakers

The Florida Times-Union is reporting that Planned Parenthood of Northeast Florida has sent “letters of disappointment” to 33 state lawmakers (all of whom are Republicans) about their votes on abortion issues during the most recent legislative session.

“The legislative session should have been devoted to creating jobs and strengthening Florida’s economy,” writes Staci Fox, president of Planned Parenthood of North Florida. ”Instead many hours were wasted on legislation that will do nothing for Floridians facing unemployment.”

From the Times-Union:

Local lawmakers who got the tsk-tsk were: Sens. Stephen Wise, John Thrasher, and Reps. Janet Adkins, Daniel Davis, Lake Ray (who was called “Ray Lake”), Charles McBurney, Ronald “Doc” Renuart, Mike Weinstein and Bill Proctor.

Area lawmakers on a much shorter “thank you” list include Sen. Tony Hill and Reps. Mia Jones and Reggie Fullwood, all Democrats.

At least 18 bills aiming to limit abortion rights were filed during the last legislative session. Among them, the state Legislature passed five — including one requiring a woman to undergo an ultrasound before an abortion and one that would strengthen laws concerning parental notification before abortion.
