Herald: ICE ‘tentatively’ selects Southwest Ranches for proposed immigration detention center

The Miami Herald is reporting that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (aka ICE) has “tentatively” chosen a site in the Broward County town of Southwest Ranches as the location for a proposed immigration detention center. The decision has not yet been made formal.

Southwest Ranches has been collaborating on the proposed facility with Corrections Corporation of America, a giant in the private prison industry.

The planned facility’s 1,800 beds would make it one of the largest in the country, as well as one of the largest in the company’s portfolio. The facility is expected to house mostly detainees who pose a minimal security threat.
