Miami judge fined for violating campaign contribution law

The Florida Supreme Court has ordered a public reprimand and a $5,000 fine for Yvonne Colodny, a Miami judge who admitted to election law and financial disclosure violations, reports the Associated Press.

Colodny, who ran in 2008, had received a $125,000 loan from her father for the campaign, violating a $500 contribution limit. She also did not include the loan on a financial disclosure form in 2009, but later added it after she was notified she was being investigated.

According to the judges, she did not receive a harsher penalty because her actions did not conflict with her impartiality as a judge.
