Protect Your Vote — the Republican-bankrolled political action committee created to defeat Amendments 5 and 6, the so-called “Fair Districts” amendments — picked up another $540,000 in donations from the Republican Party of Florida, bringing the party’s contribution total up to $2.6 million. That represents 68 percent of Protect Your Vote‘s overall funding.

Amendments 5 and 6 would create new rules limiting the Florida legislature’s ability to gerrymander districts to make victory easier for incumbents, rules the Republican Party (which possess a majority in both houses of the legislature) is naturally opposed to. But the party isn’t the sole source of Protect Your Vote cash: Miriam Adelson, a physician whose husband serves as chair of Las Vegas Sands Corp., donated $200,000 last Thursday.

Adelson has donated heavily to Republicans in the past decade, and this year has supported Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., and the National Republican Senatorial Campaign.
